The Embellishment of Pjazza tad-Dehra inaugurated
The newly newly embellished Apparition Square has been inaugurated during a ceremony held last Sunday evening.
The embellishment works carried out by the Ghajnsielem Local Council at the better known as the Pjazza tad-Dehra, consisted of changing the new fountain base from limestone to hard stone, replacement of the paving area into porfido, installation of lawn, new plants, new signage, new light system, restoration of the street furniture, and addition of two wooden bridges.
Present for the ceremony were among others, the Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds Ian Borg, Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo and the Minister for Justice and Local Government Owen Bonnici. The new director for Local Government Adrian Mifsud was also present. Hon Ian Borg and Mayor Franco Ciangura accompanied by the councillors of the Ghajnsielem Local Council and Minister for Gozo officially inaugurated the works.
The square, situated in the historic area of the village, benefited from €125,000 in EU grants financed by the European Agriculture Funds for Rural Development (EAFRD) under measure 413.4: Quality of life – Action: Landscaping.
The Sbandieratori di Noto, the well-known flag throwers group from Sicily who were purposely invited by the Ghajnsielem Local Council for this ceremony, provided the entertainment for those present, There was also traditional Maltese food available, as well as Maltese games for children. Traditional old cars were also on display as well as the traditional ‘Vann tal-Hobz”. The “Daqqaqa” also entertained those present.
This project which was carried out under the supervision of Architect Godwin Sultanta, complements the Ghajn tal-Hasselin onument which was inaugurated in February last year.
